About Me

I grew up on the stage with family owned Parker Playhouse in the resort town of Ocean City MD and, after going to school and teaching for a few years, I then was lucky enough to live my dream by living in New York City and performing professionally.  I spent nearly four years having the honor of portraying Christine in Broadway's longest running musical The Phantom of the Opera.  My other Broadway credits include a thrilling run as Eileen in the critically acclaimed revival of Wonderful Town opposite Brooke Shields (revamped New Broadway Cast recording), The Woman in White and Beauty and the Beast. I also appeared as Della in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn with City Center's, Encores! series.  I also feel blessed to have been given the opportunity to travel and star in many of my favorite musicals in terrific theaters all across the United States.

A fun fact is that my voice can be heard as Liesel in the famous Salzburg Marionette Theatre’s version of The Sound of Music starring Christiane Noll.  In concert, I have sung in New York City at Lincoln Center (Merkin Concert Hall), Town Hall, Birdland, The Friar's Club and Joe's Pub.  Across the country I have headlined concerts with the Houston, Portland, Omaha, North Carolina, Milwaukee, Bay Atlantic, Grand Junction, Roanoke, Asheville and Regina Symphonies.

I hold a MM degree from Indiana University where I appeared on the mainstage as Laurey in Oklahoma!, Papagena in The Magic Flute, Josephine in H.M.S. Pinafore and Gossip I in The Ghosts of Versailles.  I currently reside back home in Maryland where my most important job is being mom!  I also continue to sing and perform and currently serve as an Adjunct Professor in the Music Department at Salisbury University.  It is great to be home and give back to the community that gave me so much!

Teaching

I believe that we are born knowing how to freely use our voices and then, as we grow and develop, our body and our minds add all sorts of obstacles in the way.  I approach teaching singing, and working on my own singing, by focusing on finding tensions and learning how to release them and letting your own unique voice free.  My style of teaching is tailor made for each individual student.  I believe that students must learn basic music reading skills and solid technique but I also feel that singing is very much connected to physicality and emotions and, therefore, a different experience for each student.  Some of the things we work on include:

  • releasing body tensions that inhibit a free sound

  • using language to free up and focus the voice

  • building confidence in performance and presentation

  • song interpretation

  • basic music reading and sight singing skills

  • keeping the joy in singing; singing should be fun and feel great!

I am currently serving as an Adjunct Professor in Music at Salisbury University in MD. I earned my Masters Degree in Vocal Performance from Indiana University’s Jacob’s School of Music and my Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music Education from Salisbury University.  I believe that my life long stage experience gives me a unique perspective on how deal with the demands put upon the voice and in how to guide young performers who might be interested in entering the business.
